Boutique Hotel · Palmeraie

Dar Sabra

A design hotel of twenty-two keys in the Palmeraie, built in cubist blocks of ochre and set in more than two hectares of garden scattered with contemporary sculpture. Two of the units are standalone villas of 110 and 90 square metres; the rest are suites and deluxe rooms. There are three outdoor pools and one indoor pool that stays usable in winter. It suits people who want a house-sized stay with a kitchen brigade and a spa attached, and groups large enough to take the property whole.

What it actually is

Dar Sabra is a hotel, not a house you rent whole by default — twenty-two units across a single garden estate. Two of them are standalone villas, at 110 and 90 square metres; the others are suites of 45 and 90 square metres and deluxe rooms of 35. You can book one unit or, with enough notice, the entire property.

The architecture

The buildings are cubist: flat planes, deep openings, ochre render, almost no ornament. It reads as contemporary Moroccan rather than traditional, and the garden is treated as a gallery — more than sixty contemporary works are placed among the palms across two hectares.

Water and spa

Three pools outdoors and one indoors, which is the detail that matters between December and February when an unheated Marrakech pool is decorative. The spa holds a hammam, massage rooms and a six-metre jacuzzi. There is also a tennis court and a fitness room.

Eating

There is a restaurant and a bar on site, cooking Moroccan, French and Asian dishes, with vegetarian options. For a group taking the property whole, meals are arranged directly rather than à la carte.

The area

The Palmeraie sits north-east of the medina: a palm grove cut into large walled plots. It is quiet, and that is the reason people choose it. Nothing is walkable, so a car or a driver is part of the arithmetic. From Dar Sabra the edge of the medina is roughly ten minutes when the road is clear.

What the photos won't tell you

Every listing in the world photographs the pool from its best corner, and no photograph answers the questions that decide a stay. So before you commit, we put the following in writing for your dates:

  • How far the car gets, and how many metres and steps remain with the luggage.
  • Who the neighbours are, and what you will hear at five in the morning.
  • Whether the pool is heated, and in which months that decides whether you swim.
  • What “staffed” covers — who is there, at what hours, and who cooks.
  • Where the wifi actually reaches, not just where the router is.
  • Which of the property’s own photographs were taken with a wide-angle lens, and what a room looks like from the doorway.

Common questions

Can we take the whole property?

Yes. Dar Sabra can be privatised, and the property quotes for events of up to three hundred guests. Whole-property dates need real notice, so tell us early.

Is there a pool we can use in winter?

Yes — there is an indoor pool alongside the three outdoor ones, which is unusual in Marrakech and is the main reason this property works in January.

How far is the medina?

About ten minutes by car from the Palmeraie. Nothing around the property is walkable, so plan on a driver.
