What the Palmeraie is
An old palm grove that became the city’s villa district. Properties sit behind walls on large plots, along unmarked tracks off the main roads. It is green, low-rise and quiet — closer to countryside than suburb, ten minutes from the ring road.
Who it suits
Groups and families who want the house to be part of the holiday rather than somewhere to sleep. If your ideal day is a slow morning by the pool, lunch under a tree and one outing in the late afternoon, this is the right choice.
What is normally included
Staffing is the norm: housekeeping, a guardian who lives on or near the property, and usually a cook. Breakfast is very often included; other meals are usually charged separately, sometimes with the ingredients billed on top. Confirm which model applies before you arrive.
Transport is not a detail
This is the single thing that decides whether a Palmeraie stay works. Ride-hailing coverage is unreliable out here and taxis will not routinely come to an unmarked track. Almost everyone ends up with a driver on call or a fixed number of transfers a day. Price it in from the start rather than discovering it on day two.
What varies most between properties
Whether the pool is heated, and what it costs to switch on — between October and April an unheated pool is too cold to use. Then: how many bedrooms are genuinely doubles rather than a sofa bed in a study, whether air conditioning is in every room or only some, and how much of the staff time is actually included rather than billed.
Treating the driver as an optional extra. A villa in the Palmeraie without transport arranged is isolating, and the cost of sorting it late is higher than arranging it up front. The other common error is booking on bedroom count alone — eight bedrooms spread across a main house and a distant annexe is a very different holiday from eight around one courtyard.

How far is the Palmeraie from the medina?
Roughly twenty to thirty minutes by car depending on where in the grove the property sits and the traffic on the ring road. Plan on a driver being part of the stay rather than an occasional extra.
Are Palmeraie villas staffed?
Almost always to some degree — typically a housekeeper and a guardian, very often a cook. What varies a great deal is the hours they are present and which meals are included rather than charged, so get it itemised in writing.
Can we walk anywhere from a Palmeraie villa?
Generally no. Properties sit on large plots along unlit tracks with nothing within walking distance. Everything from dinner to the souks involves a car.
Is the pool heated?
Some are, many are not, and heating is usually a paid extra that needs a day or two of notice. If you are travelling between October and April, confirm this before you book rather than after.
